CRDB Replication from PostgreSQL

Hi all,

Firstly, thanks to the Cockroach team for such an awesome product.

After some brief searching, it is not clear whether I can have CockroachDB replicate from an existing PostgreSQL deployment. We’d like to see how CRDB responds to our write workload, without relying on it to serve critical traffic.

Is this possible? If not, what strategies are available to achieve this? Perhaps streaming a copy of write traffic (pg wire protocol) into the separate CRDB cluster?

Best,
Chris

Hi Chris,

If you do have a way to stream a copy of the write traffic to a CRDB cluster, that should work great, but I don’t know of any tools for doing so. However, you could probably get what you want out of a tool for playing back the traffic from your main Postgres deployment after-the-fact: https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Statement_Playback
