File System filling up

(Vikram Khatri) #1

Hi All,

Please pardon my ignorance. I have cockroachdb up and running from last 20 days using 3 nodes and there was no activity and I see that the file system filled up. I had only 1 GB volume and it has just very few tables.

Can somebody suggest if I could clean things up if possible from the volume if those files are no longer required or is there another simple solution?

Thank you

Hi @vikram,

I suspect this is related to the timeseries data that powers the graphs in the Admin UI. That data is stored within the cluster and accumulates for 30 days before it starts getting truncated. As a result, for the first 30 days or so of a cluster’s life, you will see a steady increase in disk usage and the number of ranges even if you aren’t writing data to the cluster yourself.

Since it sounds like you’re just testing and need to make the best use of limited resources, there are a few ways to reduce the storage of timeseries data. Please check out this FAQ.

Hope that helps!

Best,
Jesse

@Jesse - thank you so much. It helps - I will reduce the time to 10 days from 30.
