JSON support in CockroachDB?

CockroachDB doesn’t currently support JSON, but we plan to add it in a future release.

In the meantime, though, JSON can be stored as a string.

If adding JSON support is something that’s important to your project, we’d love to hear about it!

JSON support would instantly bring CockroachDB into contention for my next project but only it comes with indexing & query support. One common use case it would be helpful in is implementing row level ACLs.

yes, it would be important for a lot of cases where data is stored row-wise. However, schema extensibility/customization is achieved via JSON field.
PostGRES already has it.

And, second parent poster, about the need to index/query support the field.

i want to know about json support.

@jorise Not yet supported, but upcoming in our roadmap. We’ve gotten a lot of requests for JSON support, so we are actively looking into how we can implement it.
