Number of ranges constantly grows

We have our test cockroachdb cluster which we use for integration testing. Each run creates/deletes a database. Currently there are 2.5K ranges as displayed at the dashboard. What are all these ranges? Time series has only 55 ranges.

In CockroachDB 2.0, ranges are never destroyed once they are created, and each new table creates a new range. If you create and drop a lot of tables, this will lead to an accumulation of empty ranges. Idle ranges are fairly cheap, but for an integration-testing cluster you may want to tear it down and restart from scratch occasionally (or start a new local test server for each test run instead of a long-lived cluster). In CockroachDB 2.1, we’ll be able to destroy those empty ranges.
