Sequelize + FeatherJS, Associate or Hooks?

I’m still new in sql things. I want to use cockroachdb with featherjs. What I found is that FeatherJS and cockroachdb works well with sequalize. Then I found about Sequelize Associations and it’s learning curve.

In my program I need to make many-to-many relations, so should I ‘embrace the ORM’s’ by using associations? Or should I stick with FeatherJS hooks which I think maybe would be enough and easier? Is cockroachDB-sequalize works well with Associations?
