What exactly is an index-join

(Derek Zhang) #1

When I used EXPLAIN to analyze a SQL query, it always comes up with the term “index-join”. However, I don’t quite understand what exactly is an “index-join”. I cannot find such definition on CRDB document or Google Search. Could anyone explain this to me in an example?

Thanks,
Derek

Hey @derek.z ,

An index join is an historical artifact on our end. It is a join that connects two indexes together when you query a secondary index and that index does not contain all the information needed to complete the query.

Ron
